Client Spotlight: Kerry O’Kane’s Fitness Journey to Strength, Health, and Inspiring Others

Kerrys fitness journey

At our gym, we take immense pride in the progress and transformations of our members. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Kerry O’Kane‘s fitness journey, a dedicated member who has achieved incredible results during her time with us. With her two-year anniversary at the gym coming up on December 1st, her journey is one of strength, perseverance, and the powerful ripple effect it has had on those around her—especially her teenage daughter.

From Reluctance to Running: Kerry’s 5km Success

Kerry’s fitness journey began with a reluctance to train alone—she would only come to the gym for coach-led sessions or classes. But today, Kerry has transformed both her mindset and her body. A huge highlight of her progress is completing her 25th Parkrun! This achievement came off the back of doing Parkruns alongside our staff, who actively encourage members to get involved. Now, Kerry embraces running as a regular part of her routine, completing 5km runs with a time of around 27 minutes.

In addition to her success with Parkruns, Kerry is proud to train alongside another small group member. Together, they now come to the gym independently, outside of our session timetable, to put in extra work. This is a significant shift for Kerry, who wouldn’t have considered training without a coach in the past. Her newfound confidence and independence are shining examples of how far she’s come.

Strength Gains and Gym Success

Kerry’s achievements don’t stop with running. She has become a consistent and disciplined athlete across various areas of fitness. As part of our £21.50 per week small group membership, Kerry benefits from a strength-based PT session, MaxSweat classes, mobility and core sessions, and the ability to follow our workout of the day on the training app. On top of this, she trains five to six days a week, a testament to her commitment and dedication.

Her strength metrics are particularly impressive:

  • 17.5kg dumbbells on the bench press
  • Bodyweight squats and deadlifts for reps
  • 14 full press-ups to the floor
  • She’s on the verge of completing a full pull-up

These achievements represent the incredible progress Kerry has made in terms of her strength, endurance, and overall fitness. We couldn’t be prouder of the work she’s put in, and we know she’s only just getting started.

The Power of Positive Influence: Inspiring the Next Generation

One of the most significant outcomes of Kerry’s fitness journey is the impact it’s had on her teenage daughter. Witnessing her mother’s dedication to health and fitness, Kerry’s daughter was inspired to join the gym herself. This decision has had a profound effect on her mood and well-being—she’s adopted healthy habits and learned that whenever she’s feeling down, heading to the gym can help boost her spirits.

Kerry’s influence has been a shining example of how fitness and wellness can have a ripple effect on others, especially within families. Her daughter has not only improved her mood but is also developing a positive relationship with exercise and nutrition. As Kerry puts it, “If she feels bad, she knows that going to the gym will fix it.”

Crushing Challenges and Reaching the Sweet Spot

Kerry’s progress goes beyond physical strength. She’s embraced several of our gym’s health challenges, including the steps challenge, hydration challenge, and whole-foods challenge. Each of these has helped Kerry refine her approach to wellness, contributing to her improved well-being and daily habits.

In terms of body composition, Kerry’s transformation is equally impressive. While weight loss wasn’t a key goal, she has found her sweet spot when it comes to BMI. She has shed inches in all the right places, especially around her waist, while building muscle where it counts—particularly her glutes. Her body fat has dropped significantly, and she looks and feels fantastic.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Kerry?

With her two-year anniversary fast approaching on December 1st, we couldn’t be more excited about what the next 12 months hold for Kerry. Her determination, hard work, and positive influence on those around her have set her on a path to continued success. Whether it’s breaking new personal bests or inspiring more people in her circle to embrace fitness, Kerry’s journey is far from over.

We’re incredibly proud to have Kerry as part of our gym family, and we can’t wait to see what she achieves next!
