The hardest part about fitness, exercise and nutrition isn’t knowing what to do. That’s pretty easy: you can subscribe to an app or search YouTube or buy a book / magazine.
The hardest part is showing up.
We procrastinate. Other things on the long to do list take over, we say “I’ll do it later” and end up getting less exercise done than ever before.
We wait for the perfect time – even though the perfect time was yesterday.
We know too much but do too little.
We try to find the perfect workout – even though there isn’t one.
We buy stuff for our garage – and then sell it cheap the next year.
I’m guilty at times too. I’m guilty of all of it in fact!
So what has given me great fitness results over the years???
It’s not my hardcore attitude lol or my genetics (as some people like to think) or my extreme passion for feeling pain. It’s this:
“Maxi, you training later, it starts at 7”. Yes I’ll grab ya sure!
More than anything else, that’s what keeps me fit.
Here’s another one:
“Will we do a bike session and some mobility work first pop?”
That’s my team mate, he sent me a WhatsApp. I showed up and got fitter.
Are you training in the morning son? That’s my other mate, needless to say I showed up and got stronger.
“What time are you training tonight? When are you going for your workout? Is your match home or away?
That’s my wife, she’ll ask me one of these combinations of question most days.
Then my strength and conditioning coach sent me a mobility video this week to complete alongside my strength work. He said “Some extra mobility / flow / calisthenics. I like some of this just to get the body moving freely in variable patterns, rather than being fixed in our patterns of movement and motor control. If you like it, add it in a couple of times each week.”
….So I did!
These are all verbatim messages in why WhatsApp right now.
So why can I stay consistently in good shape?
It’s not that I work in a gym
It’s not that I own a gym and have the time to train (you try running a gym yourself and throw in three young children there for good measure)
It’s not the equipment in my gym
It’s not the programming in my phone
It’s not the motivation in my head
It’s not the vegetables in my fridge
It’s the people I have in my life. Period.
We opened MaxFit Gym to give people in Glengormley a local venue to come and work on feeling good each day.
Our coaches are incredible, our facilities and equipment is top-notch. But the REAL value is in the other people in the gym.
So, if you’re nervous, we’ll help you.
If you do something for the first time, we’ll celebrate with you.
If you don’t show up, we’ll call you.
You don’t have to buy pre-workout drinks or listen to loud music or slap yourself in the face to work out here. The motivation is built in: fun workouts, compounding results, and great people. It’s All About The People!
